Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) are an amazing product to build with.  The panels come prefabricated and are easily assembled at the job site leaving minimal waste: the trademark of a green building material.

The basic priniciple behind SIPs are using a large layer that on it's is an amazing insulator; but good insulators are not ideal for structural applications due to their low density.  To make SIPs the groundbreaking green building material they are today, the large insulating sheet is sandwiched between two structurally sound thinner sheets of composite board, or more typically oriented strand board (OSB).  Once these two materials, with nearly oppisite physical and structural properties, are joined together you have one of the most efficent green building materials around today.
