Leska discovered 7 layers of the roof on this project or 3,5" of layers of the various flat roof products. Not only that the layers have permanently bowed the roof trusses many trusses actually were snapped or fully cracked with worst damage toward the bottom half as the sitting ice and snow only added extra weight. When the owner saw the damage which was happening over his master bedroom area he did not only want us to replace the damaged and broken rafters but he wanted us to follow modern building code which turn out double the size of lumber. With the extra space there was also space for more insulation and the old homes never have enough. So with the cavity and new rafters there is close to R 60 with vapor barrier. We then proceeded with our contract which included installing 2 Velux Skylights, PVC membrane.
With the new framing the parapet wall were raised and the original tin flashing from 1915 was almost shot so Leska reproduce the details and proportionately enlarge the trim details to accommodate extra 6". Year later Leska came back and restore most of the original slate roof tin flashing with copper. There are still few original tin flashing trims and details needing future replacement but with proper metal primer and metal paint we hope it will be a while.
