When Leska meet the owner at the door he said that he wants roof with at least 5 year warranty, or don't even bother climb 4 story up to inspect the project. This was small shock as I was never asked this question. I told the owner that I will really need to at least see whats involved and that I will take no more than 3 minutes of his time. It hit me on the 3rd floor. The smell of roten wood and trapped moisture....
Behold. His flat roof with single slope had wall on 4 sides tall roughly 6' tall with 2 tiny scupper holes....The base layer visible was 3 ply Torch down with heavy copper flashing at transition and cedar shakes on the vertical walls. Large mechanical room sit slightly off center. More than 9 penetrations came true the roof....and many spots were so soft and rotten which had to be avoided. The top section of the roof from the street was 55' of the ground....
This was done in 2003 when copper was around $2,80/lbs....
We did get the job and copper standing seam with perimeter copper flat seam was used. Vertical walls have stainless etch diamond shaped tiles. And 10 year warranty. This complex project was one huge challenge, even from delivery of material to site. ...
The owner loved the result so much he asked us to install the similar concept on the 2 back side walls....
