Saving TWO leaking CMU chimneys and turn them into show pieces
Builders in most cases do cut corners when and where they can resulting in long term property damages as the required maximum 2 year warranty is many times not long enough.
This CMU chimney whch was not even properly parged from outside, or had proper crown mortar cap resulting in water getting inside the home. The long term exposure of the water have made the top row of the blocks fully damaged....
We have re builded the last row, and to secure the entire chimney installed wire mesh on all 4 sides with 2 coats of Sto Power walls stucco with reinforcing fiberglass mesh also draped over the top. This wrap now bonds all 4 sides securelly together. The reinforcing fiberglass in this mix keep the stucco from miscroscopic cracks and mainly from places water can enter the interior.
The final stage was instalaltion of the thin veneer stone. Both chinneys received this very nice treatment not really complicated treatment and what use to be sore point on the home have become focal point. Hydroscpoic concrete was used as final layer on top if the NEW chimney mortar cap.
